Top Down Sweaters for the Whole Family

Skill Builder Pattern

Knitting from the top has some great advantages, but there are also some challenges to overcome as well.  Knit a sweater for everyone in your family and learn what "top down" knitting has to offer.

This classic style is the perfect canvas to express your creativity. In addition to the elimination of seams, knitting a sweaters top down has the added advantage of being able to try on as you go. And in the case of children, simple alterations for increase sleeve or body length are an easy adjustment to the pattern.

With sizes ranging from 18" - 56", there is something for everyone in the family. Work from the pattern to create the sweater shown top and bottom, or add your own custom touches like the sweater in the middle all the while learning the ins and outs of knitting from the top.

  • 6.0mm (US #10) Double Pointed Needles (DPN)
  • 6.0mm (US #10) circular needle (16” - 22”)
  • 6.0mm (US #J) or larger crochet hook
  • Stitch holders
  • 10yds - 50 yds of a smooth waste yarn
  • Markers
