Dear Gwen,

This newsletter comes with the news of a loss to those well acquainted with Knitability. On November 1, 2009, Beverly Jensen, the co-founder of Knitability passed away peacefully in Fresno, California. Bev had been diagnosed earlier in the year with stomach cancer and although she was cancer free at the time of her death, she had severe complications associated with blood clots and internal bleeding.

Bev's life was celebrated with family and friends on November 11 in Fresno with many of her beautiful projects, both completed and in process on display. Bev was a wonderful friend, well respected business woman and style maven. As her niece Krystal shared, "You always wanted to look your best when Aunt Bevie was coming to visit."

Bev personally taught me about the importance and power of classic black pieces in your wardrobe, the secrets to packing for travel and the ability to see and understand color (something I thought I would never learn). She tried to teach me the difference between peach, apricot and langistino, but that will probably take yet another life time!

Bev, an excellent knitting teacher, brought many new knitters into the fold and supported ongoing educational development through her local knitting guild, Sheeper Than Therapy. Bev's life has touch many people in many ways. I know my life would be much different if she had not been a part of mine.

Beverly Jensen, knitter and friend, will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she has touch.

For the first time ever, Knitability has two Knit-a-longs (KALs) going on at the same time. Each has a wonderful array of members with a few knitters participating in both. The Different ways to Entrelac KAL is over half complete, but there is still plenty of time to join and discover the wide range of patterns and fabrics that can be made through the use of entrelac. The Reversible Coat Mystery KAL is still in the early stages, but is quickly beginning to take shape.

Both KALs are very educational, providing insights not only on the project at hand, but related topics as well. If you are ready to expand your knitting horizons, but don't have the time or money to invest in knitting classes, then Knitability KALs could be your answer. The fee is only a few dollars per lesson and with lessons delivered via e-mail, you can work at your own pace, but still get help if you get stuck along the way.

This is the last of the yarn inventory that Knitability has left in stock. There is currently a reasonable selection of colors and quantities, but that will not last long at these prices. And the sale is limited to stock on hand!

Sagacity is Knitability's private label of Brown Sheep Company's Lamb's Pride Worsted. Each skein is approximately 60 yards in length, perfect for your multi-color projects. Or 3 skeins will make the Noggin Knot (free pattern link below) as a quick to knit gift.

The Noggin Knot pattern was one of the first patterns that Knitability published as part of the Quick Knit Gifts class and was the first collaborative design effort of Gwen and Bev. As the class title suggests, it knits up quickly and makes a great gift.

It is the latest addition to the free patterns page and uses only three skeins of Sagacity (currently on sale through the end of the year). $3 of supplies and a few hours of knitting -- a great gift for everyone on your holiday gift giving list!
Most of this year has been filled with working on my upcoming entrelac book and teaching, two aspects of knitting that I truly love. However, during some of my teaching time, Kellie and I have been discussing the future of the Knitting Professors. The more we discussed it, the more we realized that we wanted to present two sides (at least) to each of our posts: an East Coast and West Coast perspective; a left handed and right handed point of view; an analytical and a creative commentary.

What resulted was our new blog that is currently under development. We realized that what we were talking about were two sides of the same stitch -- the knit and the purl! So, www.TheSameStitch.com is under development as the new forum for knitting thoughts, reviews, education and consideration.

As we enter the holiday season, I am thankful for so many people in my life. I remind you to remember to tell your friends and family what they mean to you.

Blessings and Peace of the Season,
